The University of South Wales (USW) is a leading university in Wales, renowned for excellence in education, industry collaboration, and research. It offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses across its campuses in Cardiff, Newport, and Pontypridd, providing strong employability outcomes and a vibrant student experience.

The University of South Wales traces its origins to the Newport Mechanics' Institute (1841) and the South Wales and Monmouthshire School of Mines (1913). These evolved into the University of Wales, Newport, and Polytechnic of Wales respectively. The Polytechnic became the University of Glamorgan in 1992. In 2013, following a merger between the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport, the institution was rebranded as the University of South Wales.

USW has significantly improved in rankings, becoming third in Wales overall. It ranks highly for student satisfaction in teaching quality (33rd UK-wide) and feedback quality (19th UK-wide). Aerospace engineering at USW ranks 1st in the UK for teaching quality and assessment, while subjects like forensic science, nursing, and marketing lead in Wales, with nine subjects overall ranked in the UK's top 25.
