The University of Bedfordshire has a rich educational history, originating from its teacher training roots in Bedford. The history dates back to 1882 when a Kindergarten school was established, which led to the creation of the Bedford Training College. The college evolved significantly over the years, particularly in response to changing educational needs and government policies. It gained university status in 1992 as the University of Luton and later merged with the Bedford campus of De Montfort University in 2006 to become the University of Bedfordshire.
